Dr. Shanks, a native of Middle Tennessee, graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. He has extensive experience in family eye care seeing patients of all ages. Dr. Shanks' specialty is providing a warm patient-caring practice. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and is active in his church.

Dr. Shanks and his wife Donna are members of the Providence Baptist Fellowship where Dr. Shanks serves as an ordained Deacon. He is also a Gideon. With that organization he makes annual trips to New York City to distribute Bibles to school children. Dr. Shanks currently serves on the board for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is very active in Tennessee Right to Life. Dr. Shanks is very proud of his 5 grandchildren Emily, Katie, Jackson, and Owen.
